Parish Nursing is dedicated to a holistic approach to health care.
Emphasis is placed on spiritual well being as a vital component of
physical and mental health.

Parish Nurse News
The Parish Nurse Program has been progressing. Awareness of the
importance of women’s heart health was celebrated with Red Dress Day
one Sunday last February. Women were encouraged to wear a red dress
and many men wore red ties or jackets to show support for heart health
awareness. We celebrated with blood pressure checks, balloons, red
roses and packets of information about heart health.
I also attended a Parish Nurse Workshop at Shenandoah University in
March. The emphasis was on “sacred space”, internal and external. It
was a wonderful day of networking with parish nurses from the
tri-state area.
Our parish has shown a keen interest in learning about and acquiring
automated external defibrillators. A representative from Executive
Protection Service gave a presentation on the AED at in May. By
November we had raised the funds, thanks to the ECW, Vestry, and
several donors, to acquire one for the parish hall. A training class,
open to all, was held and we are beginning work on guidelines for
specific use at Grace. An AED demonstration and question/answer
session is coming to St. Mary’s later this month. Look for details in
The Evangeline.
We are all encouraged to be aware of our weight by watching our food
intake. This year will see further development on good and proper
exercise of mind, body, and spirit. Shalom, Lynden Willingham

About our Parsh Nurse...
In June 2001, Parish
Nurse Lynden Willingham, RN, BSN, completed the Interfaith Parish
Nurse program at Shenandoah University.
The first part of the class was held in March, 2001, after which
participants returned to their home parish and began working on
establishing the groundwork for a program in their church.
In June, 2001, they returned to the Shenandoah University campus to share
experiences and continue learning the finer points of already
established programs.
